Most Common Types Of Humidifiers
A furnace humidifier connects to the home’s HVAC system to provide humidity to the entire house rather than a single room. A steam humidifier also known as warm mist humidifier or sometimes vaporizer will boil water to release steam and moisture in the air. Sometimes a medicated inhalant can be added to steam the vapor to help reduce coughs. A cool mist humidifier is a rotating disc that flings water at a diffuser, which breaks the water into fine droplets that float into the air. All that is really cool but what exactly should you look for when purchasing a humidifier? Read on and you’ll find out.
How To Choose The Best Humidifiers For Dry Air
Due to the fact that there are multiple uses for a humidifier, they are produced in various shapes and sizes. Each type of humidifier presents pros and cons and their performance depends on specific use. These are the criteria we took in consideration when we chose the designs that we think are best suited for the great majority of users:
We found out that most buyers would prefer an ultrasonic cold mist humidifier, which produces almost no noise. Also we looked at high volumes of humidity output in the shortest time possible, long power cords for ease of placement in any room and long running times between refills.
We tend to promote more the products which offer more functions such as, both warm and cold mist functions, ease of cleaning, safety and cleanliness. We tend to favor humidifiers that have built in silent features, night lighs and humidistats which are great if you need to measure the moisture levels in a room.
Reputation of the brands
The reputation of the brand can provide an incentive about the seriousness of the company that makes the product and how the company stands by the products it produces. That seriousness translates into great customer support, solid warranty and great cost per gain ratio. Some of the brands we recommend are: Air-o-swiss, Bionaire, Vicks, Honeywell, Pureguardian, Crane, SPT, Bemis and Holmes.

The Best Humidifiers For Dry Air 2019 Reviewed
Let’s start by saying that the new 2019 Air-O-Swiss 7147 humidifier is the best looking humidifier we’ve ever seen. It’s slick, black, state of the art design and the surface touch controls give this humidifier a definite edge against it’s rivals. The straight out of the box feel is amazing and it gives you a sense of exclusivity, unlike other humidifiers we’ve reviewed over time.
By the way, if after reading this review you’ve still got questions, we’ll be happy to answer them on the comment section below, we know we can’t cover all aspects in an article and we really want you to get the most informed opinion about this product. That being said, let’s get back to the review.
Features of the AOS 7147 ultrasonic humidifier
As we previously wrote, the AOS 7147 brings to the table a new and revolutionary design for humidifiers. It’s surface touch controls give you the feeling you just bought the new Mercedes S Klasse. And the spectacular design is nice and all but what can this device do?! Well, for starters it can humidify the air in rooms up to 650 sq ft (60m²). And if that isn’t enough, the output of this beast is about 0.145 gal/h, which, for a room humidifier is a lot. It empties a tank of water in about 12 hours, sure, there are units that last longer, but 12 hours is going to be more than adequate for most situations. Also, a great thing about this ultrasonic humidifier is that it can warm the mist to approximately 104 degrees.
As we all know, the past humidifiers were a nightmare to clean, they would shoot white dust all over the room and their insides were the favorite hangout for bacteria and fungi. The new AOS 7147 fixed these problems by incorporating the Hydro Stick feature which is designed to keep things clean by acting as a back-up filter. Also, some of the plastic housing inside the 7147 humidifier is treated with silver, which is known for it’s antimicrobial effect. The downside to the Hidro Stick is that the filter needs to be replaced yearly at the approximate cost of $30. But the advantage this technology brings is well worth the 30$ spent per year in our opinion.
If we sink deeper into the features this unit brings to the table we’ll notice it has the new ITC technology developed by the Air-O-Swiss team. ITC stands for Intelligent Temperature Compensation and it lives up to the nomination. What this system does is to automatically regulate the output of the humidifier to create the most comfortable relative humidity adjusted to the temperature in your room, which means, you set the humidity you want and forget about it, the AOS 7147 does the rest for you. And if you thought that was amazing, wait until you read that the Air-O-Swiss 7147 has a Sleep Mode, it pre-determines a comfortable night humidity level automatically. Another great function this unit has is a multi-timer. The timer allows pre-set use for 1 to 8 hours or continuous operation.
And to top it off, the AOS 7147 let’s you know when it needs to be cleaned and when it is empty. Oh, and the unit shuts itself off when it is out of water providing an important safety feature. An included nightlight is a great way to solve two problems with one appliance, and a carry handle makes filling the tank easy. With all the technology inserted into this unit we’re inclined to believe that it’s like a virtual pet, too bad the unit doesn’t tell you if it’s happy or sad, but we bet the developers at Air-O-Swiss are working on this feature as we speak.
Testing the features of the AOS 7147
Well after testing this unit, we can confirm all the features stated above were not exaggerated in any way. We’ve tested the unit in a larger room than advertised, it was a 720 sq ft (66.89 m²). We’ve set the humidity to 60% and left it working. After 4 hours the real humidity level was at 58% which is excellent due to the fact that we’ve used it in a room larger than the unit’s limits. We’ve tried to but we can honestly say we can’t find a fault in this unit, either functionality wise or reliability wise.
